When this was new, I didn't know that it was adapted from a popular Japanese novel (same title) from 1995, which means its relationship with the Resident Evil series probably goes both ways. No doubt Parasite Eve would have felt fresh and bold in 1998, and while I wouldn't say that its themes and mood have aged badly, some of the j-horror tropes in it became utter cliches. Not sure how interested I'll be in doing another run, but it's not a long game.
#Parasite eve junk weapons full
From what I've read, there's a good NG+ mode, and that makes sense both due to the game's brevity, and the feeling that it's holding back the full potential of its equipment system.

I'm near the end of Day 5, so probably 80% of the way through the game. Good soundtrack, moody environments, and a less-is-more approach to enemy encounters. Very much enjoying Parasite Eve, a now-obscure title from Squaresoft's post-FFVII publishing blitz. I did enjoy it, though I hated whenever a gross cutscene came up (there were at least 4 - maybe not as many as I expected, but still - some of them were long). The Japanese scientist, Maeda, only refers to those events during the game, saying, "Something like this happened in Japan." The story is pretty interesting and different than probably anything I've played. Obviously, American consumers would've been too confused if that were the case. The game is actually a sequel to a Japanese novel, but you won't be lost if you haven't read it. The achievements I didn't get are from collecting 300 junk for a certain weapons, New Game+ (called EX mode), or not using powers in boss fights (I did get one of those, though). I think I completed pretty much everything you can do without starting a New Game+.

The enemies all have pretty unique attacks and behavior, which is pretty cool. The weapons and armor have interesting abilities that you can move over, and it's cool that you can carry over bonuses to your next weapon/armor or keep powering up the one you are using. I didn't use every one, but some of them didn't really apply or I didn't think they'd be helpful (like slow). I did stick with armor that auto-potions and always had plenty of potions. I died on the worm boss once but other than that didn't have too much trouble. I ended up hoarding so many items since I usually just use MP (or whatever it's called here) to heal. The game likes to give you a ton of medicine & bullets. Maeda also likes to give you useless trinkets that take up space, so that's super annoying. You could use bonus points to give yourself some more, but you could also use them to increase your attack or something, and if you use them on inventory they'll probably just get filled back up with medicine or junk anyway. Inventory space is really a problem in this game. This game I was a bit leery about playing through because I am squeamish - some of the cutscenes are really gross - this is why I normally don't do horror. Commentary: My cousin had this game, and I remember playing through like Day 1 on his copy, but I didn't have a save file from that (I probably had to clear up space on my memory card or something), so I started over.
